Hick’s Picks 46

October 16, 2008 By Michael Hickerson Leave a Comment

Slice of SciFi favorite Mila Jovovich will join actress Brittany Snow in the upcoming big-screen adapation of the horror-survival video-game “Clocktower.”

According to Bloody Disguisting, Jovovich will play “a woman in a psych ward who befriends the lead character, played by Snow, when they discover a shared family history. Meanwhile a psychotic madman dubbed Scissorman is pursuing her and keeping the family curse going strong.”

Mark Weisz is set to direct a script by Eric Poppen and filming is set to begin next month.

This week’s Entertainment Weekly features an exclusive look at J.J. Abrams’ upcoming “Star Trek” relaunch, including exclusive photos of some of the new starships that will be seen in the film.   The article looks at the decision-making process behind re-inventing the forty-year-old franchise and offers fans a hint of what’s to come when the movie hits theaters next year. See our coverage of this in our Movie Section of the Slice of SciFi eZine.

There are wide-spread, unconfirmed reports that the first trailer with footage from “Star Trek” could hit theaters on November 14.  The trailer is rumored to be attached to the upcoming James Bond thriller, “Quantum of Solace.”

Egon, Ray, Winston and Peter are back fighting ghosts at a comic-book store near you.

The original GhostBusters crew returned yesterday in a new six-part comic-book mini-series from IDW.

Series writer Keith Champagne promises fans “back to basics” approach to the stories

“It’s a different kind of adventure for the team, part adventure, part hard boiled crime drama, plenty of comedy,” Champagne told MTV News. “But the focus is squarely back on the characters we all loved growing up. Which is where it should be.”

Fans can get a glimpse of the first six pages of the new comic at MTV’s web site.

Classic “Doctor Who” fans won’t have to wait long into 2009 to enjoy two new releases of the classic show on DVD.   On January 4, the first Doctor battles “The War Machines” while the fifth Doctor battles evil aliens bent on invading the Earth in “Four to Doomsday.”  Both  are four-part stories and will be single disc releases and retail for $19.95.
