“Operation Beta Shield,” the newest full-length feature film from a collaboration between online Star Trek film creators at Star Trek Hidden Frontier and Starship Intrepid, is now available online. The project started off as a sequel to the joint Hidden Frontier/Intrepid film “Orphans of War”. However, it quickly turned into a feature-length epic adventure that would re-unite faces from all across the fan-film world and seven seasons of “Hidden Frontier.” LIke “Star Trek Phase II” (New Voyages), it is becoming more difficult to call these kinds of projects fan films due to the high quality and production value being done on them.
This epic 90-minute release continues the saga of Captain Elizabeth Shelby (Risah Denney) from Frontier and Intrepid’s Captain Daniel Hunter (Nick Cook).
This new online feature film continues about halfway through the fan series “Odyssey” and “Helena Chronicles,” in which a refitted Excelsior receives new orders to go on an important mission critical to Starfleet. The Federation is concerned that the Archein’s may be planning to begin a new wormhole invasion of Romulan space making the entire Beta Quadrant vulnerable for attack, or at least a severe destabilization of the sector closest to the neutral zone. Shelby heads up a task force of allied starships into the Kovalis System where signs of wormhole formation have been detected. Once detected, Shelby begins the task of building a defense against the Archeins.
Karl Puder returns as Klingon General Korg. He has starred as the Klingon commander in several past episodes of Frontier. For this Trek-epic we find Korg on a top secret mission to Romulus where an attempt is made on his life! Captain Hunter and his starship the USS Interpid must return Romulan Procounsel Yeshva (Joni Bovill) back to Romulus while investigating who is behind the assassination attempt of General Korg. To make his balance on the knife-edge of diplomacy all the more difficult is the fact that his investigation leads straight to the door President Vindenpawl (Rebecca Wood).
This summary is only the tip of the iceberg of the plots, characters, and galactic scale the story will take in the film and beyond!
