Fans of “New Amsterdam” star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau will be happy to hear that he is returning to television, again in a new sci-fi program over at the Fox Network, his previous home.
Ronald D. Moore, creator and co-writer of the project, has selected Nikolaj to be the lead for his new series titled “Virtuality,” playing the ships captain named Frank Pike. He commands his crew on a 10-year mission to a planet system far, far away from Earth. Coster-Waldau replaces James D’Arcy as the lead.
The ship is equipped with Star Trek-type virtual reality modules that allow the crew to ward off the long and arduous space journey with holodeck worlds based on their own imaginations. Problems arise when the crew begins to find it hard to distinguish the real from the virtual, as well as the introduction of a holographic baddie that invades their virtual worlds.
Also starring in this new backdoor series are Sienna Guillory, Joy Bryant, Jimmi Simpson, Omar Metwally, Ritchie Coster, Nelson Lee and Kerry Bishé.
“Hancock” director Peter Berg has been tapped to helm the pilot episode.
Summer Brooks says
Guess this means New Amsterdam is a done deal?
Shane says
Couldn’t get past the first episode of New Amsterdam. I dunno but I like the sound of Virtuality. Unfortunate that the ships captain is named Pike though. That is almost as bad as having a captain by the name of Kirk or Picard or Janeway…
Sam says
Frank Pike could be a past ancestor of spacefaring Christopher Pike. That could be how space travel got into the blood of the Pike’s….starting with ole’ Frank. 😉
