3-D blood, beasts and breasts for Pirahana 3-D
While filming hasn’t begun yet for Pirahana 3-D, plans are already underway for ways to utilized digital 3-D technology to enhance audience’s experience.
“So we’re probably going to start [Piranha] up shortly and we’re developing some stuff with Joe Dante (director of the 1978 Piranha and the classic Gremlins) and Nick Garrison,” said make-up effects designer Greg Nicotero”[Piranha] is pretty straightforward. It’s ‘Girls Gone Wild’ with boobs and blood and piranhas. You can’t really mess that up.”
McGuire interested in another Spider-Man movie
Last week, Sam Raimi confirmed that he’d be interested in taking the director’s seat for a fourth installment in the Spider-Man franchise. Now comes news that star Toby McGuire could be interested in reprising his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Actor J.K. Simmons, who plays J. Jonah Jameson in the series spoke to McGuire and said the actor talked about wanting to return to the role.
“I spoke to Tobey in, I guess it was February… sort of awards season time and, y’know, he’s certainly amenable to doing some more and hopefully we’ll be able to get everybody back and make another good one,” said Simmons.
The studio has apparently already told Simmons they want him back for a sequel, but he says that if Sam Raimi weren’t involved in some capacity he may not do it – “If he’s involved, hopefully directing or at least as a producer then I’m pretty confident that it would be something that I want to do. Plus they pay money.”
New Friday will be “reboot” franchise
Producers of the upcoming Friday the 13th movie say the film won’t be an out and out remake of the horror movie original, along the lines of the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Instead, the upcoming film will take elements from the first three films in the series and serve as a reboot.
One reason for this is the original Friday the 13th only featured Jason Voorheis in the final shot of the film. Producers wanted to find a way to feature the iconic movie villain more in this version.
“He came in late for that one shot,” Form said. “And then the second one, of course, he wore the sack. And the third one, finally, you have that great moment when he comes out in the hockey mask. And I think, like you said, we tried to take elements from all three of those movies to create one reboot of Friday the 13th. And I think we take the elements where you will see Jason put the hockey mask on for the first time, how and why. And you’ll see him actually do it, not just come out with it on.”
Form’s producing partner Brad Fuller added: “It’s not presented as an origin story in the least. That’s not our goal here, to show how he put the mask on. The goal is to put a group of kids in Crystal Lake, bring him back to Crystal Lake, and have them meet Jason Voorhees, and along the way you kind of get a sense of the history, but that’s not what the story is.”
“This one’s hard, because on Chainsaw, it kind of was a reboot of the original, and on this one, … everyone in this room knows that [Jason] didn’t put the hockey mask on until the third movie,” producer Andrew Form said. “I would say most of the audience that will come see this movie doesn’t know that. … Most people think that Jason Voorhees was in the first one. … The younger audience, they think he’s in the first one, they think he’s wearing a hockey mask, and that’s kind of how this franchise started. They don’t realize that Pamela [Voorhees, Jason’s mother,] was basically the whole first one, [and] he didn’t show up until the very end of the movie.”
