X-Files: I Want to Believe Updates

April 19, 2008 By Mike Hickerson Leave a Comment

Actor David Duchonvy who reprises his role as FBI agent Fox Mulder later this year in The X-Files: I Want to Believe recently told reporters that the upcoming movie represents a return what made the television series one of the most popular and influential shows in television history.

“The themes are the same of what the show always was,” said Duchovny. “The themes are about belief and faith and about the relationship between Mulder and Scully and how that’s developed over the past four or five years the show’s been off the air.”

SciFi Wire was allowed access to the set last winter during film and reports that early-on, there could be a new look for Mulder. As the story picks up, we find Mulder living alone in a ramshackle house in the woods outside of D.C. Mulder is a fugitive and is separated from long-time partner Dana Scully.

“They’ve not been stuck in time,” Duchovny said. “I don’t know if [series creator and director] Chris [Carter] mentioned that. But, you know, they’ve moved on in some fictional realm just as we all have. And yet their issues remain the same.”

“This is more of a story we would have told in season three or four” of the series, Carter observed.

Duchonvy went on to say that he was excited to reprise his most identifiable role as Mulder.

“I was very excited to do it, and then as the date approached nearer, I started to wonder if I needed to work more, to kind of get back into that,” he said. The challenge, he added, “was how to bring what I’ve learned in the last four or five years into this box.”

News about the possible plot for the upcoming film have been kept as tightly under wraps as certain secrets held by the Cigarette Smoking Man during the show’s run on FOX. However, as the film gets closer, tidbits of the plot are beginning to leak out. On Friday, Ain’t It Cool News reported that the publisher for the tie-in novelization had posted the back cover blurb to Wikipedia. The blurb was removed but not before it was passed along around the Net.

SPOILER: If you’re interested in getting an idea of what could be the plot of the film, then continue reading …

“Mulder and Scully are back in the thrilling novelization of the summer 2008 blockbuster movie based on the classic X-Files TV show! When a group of women are abducted in the wintry hills of rural Virginia, the only clues to their disappearance are the grotesque human remains that begin to turn up in snow banks along the highway. With officials desperate for any lead, a disgraced priest’s questionable “visions” send local police on a wild goose chase and straight to a bizarre secret medical experiment that may or may not be connected to the women’s disappearance. It’s a case right out of The X-Files. But the FBI closed down its investigations into the paranormal years ago. And the best team for the job is ex-agents Fox Mulder and Dr. Dana Scully, who have no desire to revisit their dark past. Still, the truth of these horrific crimes is out there somewhere… and it will take Mulder and Scully to find it!”
