Grand Theft Auto 4 breaks records

Grand Theft Auto 4 breaks records

April 16, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 1 Comment

The upcoming release of Grand Theft Auto 4 is breaking records even before it hits store shelves later this month.

The latest title in the series is on-pace to break $400 million in sales the first week of its release, shattering not only the record for sales of a video-game but also for any title on any type of entertainment platform.

According to Variety, sources close to Take-Two Interactive, whose Rockstar Games label is developing and releasing GTA4, say the newest installment will sell six million units when it launched on April 29. The prediction is based on orders from retailers and industry analysts expect it to reach or exceed $400 million out of the gate.

The previous record for first-week videogame sales is held by Microsoft’s Halo 3. What gives GTA4 a leg-up is that it is a multi-platform release.

I’m not sure where you got that box art, but it should not in any way be considered official. See http://media.gtanet.com/images/3869_gta_iv.jpg
