The Doctor to face an old foe at Christmas?

April 15, 2008 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

While series four of Doctor Who has just begun airing in the UK (and begins airing stateside this Friday), reports and speculation about the upcoming holiday speical are beginning to spring up on-line.

But instead of the usual “Is Tennant leaving” rumors, this time the stories concern a returning adversary that could reappear in this year’s Christmas special.

Before you read any further, this could be a SPOILER.  So if you don’t want to know, don’t read after the jump.

SyFy Portal is reporting that the upcoming holiday special will feature the Doctor’s second-oldest nemesis, the Cybermen.  The South Wales Argus has released a photograph showing the metal monsters marching through a snow-covered cemetery.

“I was going past the cemetery walls and saw lots of white smoke … a security guard said they were filming ‘Doctor Who’ – it was very exciting,” said resident Janet Hancock who stumbled upon the shoot.

Production on the upcoming holiday special is currently underway.   It should be noted there is no official confirmation of the metallic monsters returning to Doctor Who.

Dunno if it is true or not, but that news DOES kinda make sense in a way if you’ve seen the last scenes of the series four opener, (the “trash bin” scene) and think how that may tie into the previous seasons of the revived Doctor Who.

Yeah I guess there could still be Cybermen left over from the end of season two, not the ones who came through the rift, but rather the unlucky sods who got converted during the rather short war against the Darleks.
They did set up the scenario in Attack of the Cyberwoman but luckily Torchwood managed to stop her.

😉 It looks like the rumor is true.
