In a recent interview with SCI FI Wire actress Amanda Tapping, star and executive producer of SCI FI Channel’s upcoming new series “Sanctuary,” said the show will differ significantly from the Web series on which it is based.
Tapping will reprise her online role of Dr. Helen Magnus, who is a scientist, doctor and an immortal that has dedicated her life to seeking out and protecting supernatural and unnatural creatures.
“The fact is it’s already evolving,” Tapping said in an interview at SCI FI’s upfronts last week. “Our pilot that we’re now going to start shooting is very different from what you’ve seen on the Web. But [Magnus] is still this crazy character. She’s 157 years old, and she’s very eccentric and very sexy and very unapologetic. I love it.”
Tapping will continue as Colonel Samantha Carter for the “Stargate: Atlantis” series until her contract expires and she is gradually replaced by Robert Picardo as the bases new director. She will also continue with any future Stargate SG-1 films. The next SG-1 movie, “Stargate: Continuum” will be released on DVD in July 2008.
“Sanctuary” will premiere on the SCI FI Channel later in 2008.
