2008 Already Looking Good for Vidgames

March 14, 2008 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

devil_may_cry_4_1.jpgWe aren’t even three FULL months into the year and already the video game industry is posting record profits.

As of February 2008 revenue is up by as much as 34 percent over the same time period last year, which equates to a dollar figure amounting to about $1.3 billion, and total growth for the first two and a half months of 2008 is up nearly 26 percent.

The recipent of most of this 2008 increase can be lodged to Capcom’s newest game “Devil May Cry 4,” according to some stats posted by Variety.

Others reaping big revenue streams for console sales are Microsoft Xbox, Sony’s PlayStation 2 & 3, with Nintendo still on top as the industry leader with its Wii consoles. It should be noted that Sony is quickly rising from its third place seat thanks in part to Blue-ray winning the hi-def HD wars. The Blue-ray player is part of Playstation’s config.

While “Devil May Cry 4” is the number one game thus far for 2008, closing in fast is Disney’s vidgame “Turok and Xbox 360’s “Lost Odyssey.” Sega isn’t out of the picture either. Its “Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, which debuted in January, is performing well in sales.

Finally, some other games still holding their own are Activision’s “Call of Duty 4,” “Guitar Hero III” and “Rock Band” from MTV.
