CW Renews Smallville, Supernatural

March 5, 2008 By Michael Hickerson 6 Comments

Two SF genre shows will return to the airwaves next season. The CW has renewed “Smallville” for an eighth season and “Supernatural” for its fourth according to reports.

supernatural1.jpgThe news was a pleasant surprise to “Supernatural” which while it’s retained a good portion of the “Smallville” audience, has suffered in a highly-competitive Thursday time-slot. Lately the series has had to go up against the return of ABC’s hit series “Lost,” which has seen a real comeback for viewers.

The news of “Smallville”‘s return was not unexpected but does raise one big question–will the series be back without its main villain? Actor Michael Rosenbaum, who plays Lex Luthor on the series, has repeatedly stated he will not renew his contract after this season and has no plans to return to the show.

Another CW genre-related show, “Reaper” was not granted an early renewal by the CW. Whether or not the show returns for another season remains to be seen.

Dunno why they’d bother bringing back Smallville without Rosenbaum. He’s easily the best thing about the series.

    P.S. Please renew Reaper!

Stoked about Supernatural, I gave up on Smallville four seasons ago and I can’t believe they’re bringing it back for another season (in my mom’s words – “when the hell will they just let him grow up and be Superman! End the show already!”)

And Reaper? Please don’t cancel Reaper! Where else am I to find my Ray Wise fix?

“Smallville” won’t have Lex or Lana as regulars, which is half the cast. Far better to wrap it all up this season and call it a day.

I hope “Reaper” gets renewed. It’s the best new series this season.

Now Smallville can try new things. I hope it stays on for years. I was geeting sick of Lana anyways.

big fan of supernatral and would really love it to continue, as for smallville though i couldn’t care less. Although Jensen ackles stared in both shows his preformance is deffinitly better as a main role.
