Hands Free Play — The Latest Gaming Gizmo

February 21, 2008 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

0_61_emotiv_bci.jpgVery soon gamers all over the world will be able to free up their arms and hands for other multi-tasking duties while slaying that pesky dragon or blazing down the motor speedway in front of their favorite gaming console.

Thought control gaming will become the wave of video games as early as the end of this year when Emotiv Systems Inc. plans to start selling their EPOC neuro-headset for the unbelievably low price of only $299 (USD).

The neuro-headset sensors are designed to detect conscious thoughts and facial expressions as well as, you ready for this?….”un-conscious emotions” by reading electrical impulses coming directly from the brain.

Emotiv makes the claim that the headset can detect a whole range of emotions from anger and excitement to increased tension and relaxation, as well as facial expressions and cognitive actions like pushing and pulling objects.

The headset will be sold with a game developed by Emotiv, but it can also be made to work with existing PC games, the company said in an open press statement.

It will also be available for online gaming by users and is able to access an online portal to play one on one or group games, participate in virtual chat rooms and use the device to upload their own content such as music or photos. Can you say “Logan’s Run?”

One question. Can the thought police be too far behind?
