When the title for the next Bond film was announced yesterday by Pinewood Studios as “Quantum of Solace,” critics and fans alike from all over the globe let out a universal groan and began to immediately lambast it as absurd, ridiculous, Non Bond-like….and these were the nicer comments.
In response to what seems like an overwhelming disappointment at what some are saying could be a disasterous decision for the highly popular franchise, the newest actor to portray the legendary British uber-spy 007 spoke up. Daniel Craig, who debuted as Bond in the 2006 release of “Casino Royale” wasn’t shy in stepping forward to defend the film’s premise and title.
Craig is trying to relieve fan’s fears that the Bond in this film will be a weaker version of past incarnations, since so much of what he will have to deal with is an inner struggle after the death of the only woman he ever really loved took place near the end of “Royale.”
“For me, he’s [Bond] more in control, but not necessarily everybody else thinks he’s in control,” stated Craig.
And, concerning the disappointing, weak sounding title?
“We could have gone for a snappier title, but that sort of suggests we’re insecure about what we’re trying to say. The statement is an Ian Fleming statement. It comes from the idea that in a relationship, if you don’t have a quantum of solace left in your relationship, then give up. Where Bond is left at the end of the last movie his heart’s been broken and he doesn’t have that quantum of solace, he doesn’t have that … closure on what happened in his life and he needs to find out. What is great about it is it also applies to something very important in the plot.”
Craig is not worried that this film won’t measure up to the last one, which many believe to now be the best Bond film ever made in the entire 44 years of the franchise.
“I’m not worried because it’s too late to be worried, because it’s already happened,” Craig admitted. “We’ve got a different director, we’ve got a different cast, we’ve got a different crew on this, we’ve got a different attitude towards this film, and this movie has to stand up on its own the same way the last one did. I wouldn’t go into this unless I thought that we could make this a separate movie from the last movie, even though they carry on chronologically.”
“Quantum of Solace” is currently filming and will get its theatrical release on November 7, 2008.

I have no problem with the title – I mean, heck, if its good enough for Ian Fleming.

Bond does make a very brief appearance in the story. It’s odd they would choose it though, there are no car chases, ect. Like you get in other bond stories. Bond is Bond, no mater the title.
