Jerry Bruckheimer, producer of such big blockbuster movies as the “Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise and the Nicholas Cage “National Treasure” films, not to mention television shows such as all three “C.S.I” hits, “Cold Case,” “Without a Trace” and the highly popular reality program “The Amazing Race,” has entered a deal with MTV to produce high-end video games.
These two giant entertainment gurus will not only create, but also co-own the new gaming company being formed to develop various video gaming ideas.
“We’ve been researching videogames for quite a while, trying to find the most talented people to partner with,” Bruckheimer said of the move.
MTV will own and publish games developed by the studio, with the name of the “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “CSI” exec producer prominently featured, just like on his movies and TV shows, according to a statement in the Variety trade paper.
“Jerry has become a brand because the entertainment products he develops connect so well to our audience,” said MTV exec veep Jeff Yapp, who oversees vidgames for the cable conglom. “We want him to take that same insightfulness into gaming.”
The newly formed game-studio company has yet to have an official name, nor is it devulging any of its ideas for public consumption at this time, but rumor has it that the main thrust of development will concentrate on the creation of a more high-tech virtual world style of gaming yet to be experienced by players.
