Save Journeyman Campaign

December 14, 2007 By Sam Sloan 47 Comments

journeyman10690nd2.jpgNBC has let slip the dogs of war by allowing the pick-up date for their great SF series “Journeyman” come and go without renewing it for the rest of Season One.

We need to let NBC know something they obviously don’t have a clue about — Just how great this show is and all it needs is to be moved to another night at an earlier time.

We have a way all fans can do that. Since the show takes place in San Francisco, California we are asking everyone to send one box of San Francisco’s own “Rice O Roni” to the powers that be at NBC.

roni.jpg

Visit SaveJourneyman.net & Send that Rice O Roni to:

End the year with a bang and go into 2008 feeling like you did something to help save a show that is a gem in the midst of a whole lot of coal.

Surely there’s room for a “Save these shows” sticky post, rather than the latest cancelled show (Journeyman) replacing the previous (Dresden Files).

One other note: We certainly haven’t given up on getting Dresden back either. The original posting is still here and it will continue to be in all our weekly show notes as a reminder. We also haven’t stopped our fight to keep “Blood Ties” on the air. But, I only want sticky note at a time because too many of them looks ridiculous.

    Hi Sam,
I actually meant merging the save- postings to 1 sticky post (and possibly shortening them and linking to the original posting for further details like where to send the items).

This is a travesty that they are considering dumping this show.
It is getting stronger with each episode.
I cannot beleive they are dumb enough to let such a wonderful show die.
I hope lots of folks write in and keep this great show alive.

Spend one dollar, buy the song and write a review or anything you want about the show and why it deserves to be on the air.

If enough people spend $1 and do this, the song could end up in the Top Songs category.

For less than the price of a cup of coffee, you too could Save Journeyman.

Bogus. Another great show canceled. This is why I hate starting new shows, the networks don’t let an audience build anymore. Does every show have to be American Idol to stay in rotation? I’ll bet Heroes is dumped after next season.

There’s also an effort underway to unify all the Journeyman campaigns, talk of a New York Times Ad, and a download day for Journeyman on Monday, Jan. 7th, 2008, the day Journeyman would’ve returned if there were any new episodes (and of course no writers strike). It’s truly a shame that NBC would give up on their most promising new series, rather than moving it to a more appropriate time slot and giving it some actual promotion. As much as they claimed to love this show, they did absolutely nothing to show it.

And the people who keep referring to it as a “Quantum Leap ripoff” need to grow up–or maybe try actually watching it. The idea that a show that has a somewhat similar premise can’t come out over 15 years later is just idiotic.

And it could just as easily be said that Quantum Leap is a ripoff of shows like Time Tunnel and Voyagers.

You might have noticed the following cartoon about journeyman on the boards yesterday.

The creator is actually a big fan of the show. His cartoon strips are syndicated in papers across the country. And he’s agreed to answer questions about his strip and Journeyman. I’ll be revealing his answers during the chat on Wednesday night. If anyone here would like to join in that chat tonight, it says to contact serulous on the nbc Journeyman board.

I think Journey Man was an awsome show, It’s about time NBC hit the nail on the head by finally putting some decent shows on the air. I’m an avid viewer of both Chuck and Journey Man, and they killed two birds with one stone by having them on the same night. Meanwhile they continue to run horrible shows like 30 Rock, and they even brought back that really crappy show Medium. What gives NBC, just when you finally have a good lineup and a great following, you kick good shows to the curb.

    Ya know….

I’m really sick of hearing people compare Journeyman to Quantum Leap and Life on Mars. There is nothing even remotely similar in these shows and to even draw the comparison is sending the wrong message to people who could fall in love with the program like we have.

Let’s also work on shutting up these detractors, and getting the message out that this show has nothing to do with the programs they are comparing it to.

TV Guide is the worst offender as of late. The reporter quoted as saying that “Life on Mars is Journeyman done right.”

Does this not piss you off fellow fans of the show?

It’s not like any other show before, it’s just great on it’s on merit. I have never been involved in saving a TV show before, and I’m 60 years old. But this one is worth the effort.

Seriously, I’m thinking of writing a filter for your CSS. I really love getting the Slice Of SciFi updates on my Google page but G*D* I am really getting sick of only getting 2-3 legit headlines out of my 5 selected because it has been overwritten by this “campaign”. Let it go! There is definitely more to the SciFi world than Journeyman (which I have never even heard of outside of the posts here). This is starting to get like the Burger King commercials where they get rid of the Whopper. If you’re that obsessed… you need help. Now, can we get back to some real news?

Are you guys out of your mind? How could you even consider canceling the best show on television. Journey man looks at time travels in a unique and interesting way. I’ve been waiting for the writer’s strike to end so that I can again enjoy a truly great show. I’m really not a fan of the nbc network right now. It’s obvious that the people who have decision making powers there have no idea of how to run a network.

I must agree with Michael Mennenga in that this show was nothing like quantum leap. I wondered early on if it would “jump the shark”, but Kevin Falls kept introducing new wrinkles in the plot. The Dan’s brother and the FBI agent chasing counterfeit bills with future treasury secretaries on them. Mysteries about the girlfriend, Livia, not dead but traveling from the past.

The final two episodes were perfection. Episode 111, “The Hanged Man” was a shocker, Dan leaves behind a digital camera in the past. This prevents his son, Zack from being born, and instead a daughter, Caroline was conceived nights later! The children’s butterfly art was no doubt a tribute to the 1952 short story by Ray Bradbury, “A Sound of Thunder” (a crushed butterfly in the past alters the traveler’s world back in the future). Trading the existence of Caroline for the return of Zack is a somewhat disquieting choice, but Dan marches onward.

Episode 112, “Perfidia” brings Dan and the series into full circle. He meets a third time traveler, Evan, driven mad after causing his own marriage to have never happened. The episode ends with Dan seeing himself become a traveler.

I must say IF the series never is brought back it will remain a masterpiece. Clever writing, good music, decent effects, convoluted plots, and leaving a few more questions that those answered. Time travel would never be simple, and Dan’s journeys will always remind us of that.

I just “discovered” Journey Man, and absolutely is enthralled. The writing is great and the plot was inexhaustible. Excited about the show and having got on this kick late in the game, I looked up to see when the 2nd season was starting. To my dismay, the result of no furtherance saddened me. I’m making my way through the latter half of the 1st season on the Hulu network. Hulu.com was where I first watched the show and got hooked. It’s funny, Journey Man is a sci-fi and I didn’t think I would be into it but come to realize that the show comprises much much more than jumping through time. Anyhow, I hope another network does pick up this program. It would be shame to have a good show disappear.
