McGillion Makes It Onto Set of “Star Trek”

December 14, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

paul_mcgillion_01.jpgWell, he may not be playing Scotty, the role, in my opinion he was born to play, but “Stargate: Atlantis” actor Paul McGillion will be making an appearance in the new J.J. Abrams “Star Trek” movie due out December 25, 2008.

According to TrekMovie.com, McGillion, most known for portraying Dr. Carson Beckett for 3 seasons on SCI FI Channel’s “Stargate: SG-1” spinoff show, won an unspecified speaking role for the Trek film.

Paul, an actual Scotsman, was on our show back on October 6 and slightly hinted at a possible connection with Trek (but couldn’t say much), talking about how appearing in the movie would make his Star Trek loving Dad back in Scotland proud. Well it seems like Mr. McGillion will get a chance to see his son donning a Trek uniform after all. Paul did audition for the part of Montgomery Scott, the famous Starfleet miracle-working engineer who served nearly his full career aboard the USS Enterprise under the command of two Starship captains, Pike and Kirk, however, the role went to “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz” star Simon Pegg. As far as casting is concerned, that could be the only mistake that Abrams has made, but we are willing to give Pegg a chance to prove himself as Scotty.

McGillion finished shooting his part for the film in November. His scene was shot with the new James T. Kirk, portrayed by young actor Chris Pine.
