McG (“We Are Marshall,” “Chuck,” “Supernatural”), as of last night, has officially signed on to direct the new Terminator 4. Titled “Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins ,” Warner Bros. recently gave the film a greenlight and is looking for filming to begin sometime in early 2008 for a summer 2009 release. The script, by John Brancato (“The Net”) and Michael Ferris (“Primeval”), was locked in this October, well before the writer’s strike. Brancato and Ferris also wrote the sceenplay for “Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.”
The fourth film is described as being as big in size and scale as the third film in the franchise, yet will be able to come in at a smaller budget since Arnold Swartzenegger isn’t attached drawing a huge paycheck. Also not returning are Claire Danes and Nick Stahl, according to joblo.com.
On an interesting side note: the screenwriter, Michael Ferris, recently opened a website that allows visitors to submit scripts for short films. Ferris will help get the scripts to his agents and managers.
