Strike May Cause Early “Heroes” Season Finale

November 3, 2007 By Sam Sloan 24 Comments

071021_masioka_vmed_5pwidec.jpgMichael Ausiello from TVGuide.com is reporting that the first sign of the impact from a WGA strike is already being felt by networks.

NBC is preparing for an early season finale of its big SF show “Heroes” citing the strike called for this Monday by the 12000 members of the Guild as the main culprit behind their decision to air the finale earlier than planned.

Michael’s sources confirm that the cast and crew have been called back to shoot an alternate ending for the show to air December 3. If the Feds can bring parties back together before 12:01 AM Monday, then this alternate episode will be scrapped and the network’s original season finale can be kept on the regular schedule.

We reported earlier in the week that the mid-season filler, “Heroes: Origins” has been put on indefinite hold due to the strike, but that too would be back on the boards if the strike can be averted.

As much as I would like to see this strike issue resolved to everyone’s satisfaction, I hold out little hope of any last minute salvation. The two parties involved are so far apart on the DVD payment issue that I don’t see any timely solution occuring and expect to see the pickets go up in less than two days.

This is bad news for Heroes IMHO.

This season has been less than stellar with the show recycling plot lines from last year and an arc that, quite frankly, isn’t that compelling. With the series being broken into blocks for scheduling, I’d hoped the next block or two would improve. However, if the series ends with this block, this could further frustrate fans and drive them away from the show entirely.

huh? I’ve enjoyed this season so far more than last season in it’s entirety. More hero stuff has happened and the ‘arc’ has only just started so what the hell is Michael talking about? That’s why I stopped listening to Slice..total balls like that gets uttered…

that’s gonna blow. I’m liking this season and really would like to see where all this is going. Instead it looks like I’ll be stuck with an abbreviated tie-up

Actually, this isn’t really “wrapping it up early”, so to speak. The producers mentioned a long time ago that the second season was broken into two 11-episode “volumes” from the beginning. One would transition into the other. This plan would take the end of the first volume for the second season and make it more definitive. Then they would resume in the third season with the material already shot and/or planned for the second volume.

It’s a far better scenario than currently on the table for other shows…

    Elle,

This season has been a huge disappointment to me. Of course, this show has been on a huge downhill slide since Christopher Eccleston left last year. The whole final third of season one and the first part of this one have been totally disapointing.

And now, we’re retreading. Oh look, we’ve gone forward and the world is destroyed. Wait, didn’t we do that last year? Sylar, Peter and Nathan should all have been killed since their plotlines are going nowhere. The show requires that Mohinder do stupid things for the sake of the plot. One minute he’s standing up to the Company and then next minute, he’s towing the line. It’s never established what the Company is doing for Molly that he couldn’t take her. Also, he tries to free Nikki/Jessica but never looks around for cameras, which you know the Company is probably using.

And Peter’s losing his memory so he can explore his powers again…been there, done that. Sylar’s announcing his intentions in a soliloquy last week was terrible writing.

And the new characters aren’t worth the time of day.

Only plotline that is moderately interesting is Hiro’s and even then, it’s become predictable.

I have to agree with those who have enjoyed the second season just fine. Sure, they’ve taken time to move the players into position before the ball really got rolling…just like they did in the first season… and in fact, ALL of the criticisms I’ve seen of the second season were equally true of the first season. The difference, I believe, is that some people are taking the show too seriously and forgetting that it’s a live-action comic book, not a Tom Clany thriller.

And like John, I’m pleased that the producers have taken steps to move the stories into a position where the show can go into a potential mid-season hiatus (if necessitated by the strike) without leaving the audience dangling in frustrating limbo. It’s a much better scenario than most other shows will present to their viewers.

Ok, michael you’re totally one of those people who looks for all the bad things in movies and shows, which is probably why you don’t enjoy much in life. I bet when you saw transformers you were like “omg thats just a huge advertisement for cars”. When REAL fans, REAL people saw it actually enjoyed it for a good movie. Heroes has rocked since episode one and i recommend that you stop watching, maybe continue watching spongebob… that might be more to your liking. Lots of plot there for ya.

guys(for all of those who’s bullshiting) first of all a show is there to be enjoyed and not to look for all its mistakes and so on. Don’t wry micheal there are people who do that work on a professional scale not as a fan like you.
In my openion the show rocks. Why? Because it is totally unpredictable not like you’ve(micheal) said. If you really manage to predict such a show entirely you shouldn’t be posting your comments here but go and post your cv to hollywood as a pro writer.
On the other hand I’d like to thank for the writers and all those who managed to make Heroes such fantastic film.

I think Tim Kring and anyone else on this planet that think that somehow season 2 of Heroes was a complete disaster are sorrily mistaken. This season has had more action and suspense than the last season and every week everyone I know that watches it have been sitting on the edges of their seats waiting for next week and now we have to wait for ages before we can witness more episodes of the best show ever. The only mistake made is this strike. God only knows what I will be doing while I wait for the inevitable return of Volume 3, but I do know life wont be as exciting.

to be honest… yes, the strike is dissapoint… and the fact that the chapter has been wrapped up so quick. I would have loved so many more of my questions to answered, so many more peoples powers to be explored. For Peter to begin seeping put of his perpetual state of cowardice, disillusionment and naivity. For Muhider (sorry 4 the spelling) to get some fucking balls and judge a situation for himself with that briiliant intellect, and not just take everyones word for what it is. WHat the fuck can the Petrelli’s ‘capable of’??? Why s..

….shut Moly out when she can do so much more. She probably has some advanced form of astroprojection…. could that cop guy hitch a ride whenever she looked for people.. could he extend his reach of power from this point. .. I could go on.. but ah, c’est la vie, things don’t always go as planned. But I’m happy for what the team has done so far.. BRAVA PPL.. and yes, wrapping up now would b better than leaving us all in some dreadfull limbo… tho if anything, seeing as the show was rivetting so (enough to leave in such a haze of questions when cutting off half way), I would prefer them to ‘imagine this never happened’ if the problems were resolved and refilm… just continue from what they were supposed to be doing and ignore the ‘strike ending’…… think of it as one of the timelines they visited where they witnessed the world in peril…

    Please!
Find a solution to this strike!
    Do not ruin Heroes!

I can’t accept that they end a season with so many loose ends. I disagree that it was better to wrap up now than to leave us in some dreadful limbo. Actually announcing to the viewer that pausing the series because of the writers strike, would been a much better alternative than to do the last “wrap up” episode which where nothing but abysmal. Please untie these stupid knots you just tied and ship the last episode you just aired as DVD Extras: alternate ending.

    Best regards!
    Heroes Fan!

I can’t believe how many ppl love the second season. I myself completely agree with all that Michael said, and much more. I’ve actually felt that way for the last couple of episodes. First season was fun because everyone was discovering their powers, and they act silly and stupid , sometimes out of ignorance. But second season they’re still doing a lot of really stupid stuff, mostly based on emotional outbursts or ignorance too, and it just feels like a soap opera at this point. Watching Peter, Mohinder and Nicky gets manipulated blatantly by the bad guys over and over and over again is just too much. I almost feel like their brain have deteriorated to balance the superpower they get (except for Mohinder, he doesn’t have an excuse). The worst part of the second season is probably Maya. I don’t even know why she’s in the storyline other than to piss off ppl who watch the show. She’s whiny, full of contradiction (one minute she’d be crying and repenting, the next she’d be killing other ppl to run away), easily manipulated, overall annoying and she’s taking a lot of precious time from other characters.

As for other part of the story, Claire and her dad was on a really open and honest terms, and she seems quite mature on the first season and the beginning of the second season. But they decide to put in a teenage angst problem into the plot, and instead of showing Claire the picture (which make sense, since she’s involved anyway and she’d understand), he decides to fight it out with her and be overprotective.

Anyway, maybe ppl like me just like to complain too much about everything, but i enjoyed the first season.. i don’t have much to complain about there. There are definitely shows out there I enjoy too, i just don’t like how the characters in heroes are regressing (mentally, all around.. except for Nathan and Hiro maybe) and the new characters they introduce are worse.

Either way, i think its fine to discuss the show =P. I’m a fan of the show too, which is why i like to talk about it to other ppl, and i want to make it better or at least to get rid of the really annoying parts. But the for the purist die hard fan, i’m sure i’ll still be burned as a heretic for questioning the original script =).

im hopelessly adictted to this heroes, they cutme of high & dry. i live in england n im like most people on this island downloading it seconds after its upload. there was some negative feedback on this series, which is just one of various points of veiws you can take, can be denied that there are some not so great scrict decitions that have been made but based on the first series this might justbe a story device to lead you in to think the same mistakes will happen, this series is definatly about growth so i feel weve got somuch to look forward to,

remember the build up in the last half of the first series, wow, i have no fear that this show will come back hitting harder than home truths to micheal jackson.

lets not pick on micheal its just an opinion,
    🙂
