The New Face of Kirk?

October 10, 2007 By Sam Sloan Leave a Comment

Written by: Samuel K. Sloan (FarPoint Media Executive News Director)

chrispine_150.jpgIs this the new face of Captain James T. Kirk? Could be! Young actor Chris Pine, considered one of the newest and hottest tickets in the entertainment industry, is currently in negotiations to star alongside George Clooney in “White Jazz,” but even more importantly to SF and Star Trek fans, is one of the main actors on J.J. Abrams’ A-List radar for the role of the younger Kirk.

There is one thing that could kill it for Pine. If he takes the role with Clooney, that will cause a real conflict with the shooting schedule for the Trek flick. Abrams will be filming Trek beginning this November and running straight through March 2008. With Pine as the major character, along with Spock, his presence would be needed every day on the set. Clooney’s film begins shooting on location in January 2008, a full three months before Star Trek would be finished.

So, if Abrams wants Pine for the role of Kirk, the 27-year old has a huge career choice before him — star opposite the biggest and most powerful man in the entertainment industry, ala George Clooney, or become the lead actor in the longest running and most popular SF franchise in entertainment history. Whichever choice Pine makes will change his life forever. Whatever he chooses, he only has a few more weeks to do it in.
