Moviehole.net is reporting that actor Alan Tudyk told them in a phone conversation on Thursday (Oct. 4) that a sequel to the “Serenity” film could be in the works.
The actor, famous for playing Serenity’s pilot named Wash, said during their talk that the newly-released “Serenity : Special Edition“ DVD has been selling so hot, that there’s talk at Universal of doing a sequel with Joss at the helm and all the cast getting back together.
“They had to put [the new DVD] out because they’ve been selling out of the other one and so Universal’s like ‘So, let’s do another one’. And now… there’s now a chance there’s going to be another movie,†stated Tudyk.
If it does happen, and since Universal is contemplating and openly talking about it, then it likely will, Tudyk admits he isn’t sure if it will come out as a full theatrical release or a special DVD one similar to what “Stargate SG-1” is going to do with its next two films.
“It really isâ€, says Tudyk. “Everybody in the Firefly crew – and that includes the ones who died in the movie – are excited about the prospect of doing anotherâ€.
“Nathan Fillion,” says Tudyk, …”is especially keen [on the idea of another feature].” “We were out a couple of weeks ago together at a party and there was a bunch of people there, and he was like ‘Oh, look we’re Browncoats’â€.
Fox. You effing bastards. Even the actors haven’t moved on because it was JUST THAT GOOD.
Maybe Serenity 2 can be before Wash dies. 🙁

I’m thinking that if this does happen, it won’t be officially green-lighted until sometime next year. Then there’ll be the script-writing. I’m sure Joss has Part 2 outlined and possibly the first draft waiting for a first pass by the studio. Pre-production (including cast and crew round-up, tech & design stuff) will take a while.
All in all, if Universal is even just *talking* about the possibility of a Big Damn Sequel in ANY form, with Joss’ schedule and some of the main characters otherwise occupied with acting gigs, most likely we won’t be seeing it ’till 2009 or early 2010.
Ah well…whatever…as the Jackson 5 sang:

It took Futurama a long time, DVD sales, and Adult Swim to make a comeback, but they’re getting 2 new movies, and possibly -just possibly – some new episodes beyond that. Fox, though they take a while to learn, can be taught.
So maybe, just maybe, if they get numbers like they got with Family Guy and Futurama in DVD sales we can turn a few heads. Maybe if Sci Fi starts running firefly nightly on TV, just running the episodes over and over, like they do with Family Guy and Futurama on AS, it will generate the kind of numbers we need.
I want my dose of new gorram “Firefly” or “Serenity”!
