“Halo 3” Sets Another Record

October 5, 2007 By Sam Sloan 4 Comments

If you thought the $170 million (USD) in sales in just 24 hours was impressive wait until you read the following.

1439053234_f0b4ab5e79.jpgMicrosoft announced this morning that in just one week the release of its highly touted “Halo 3” video game has topped $300 million dollars in off-the-shelf sales worldwide.

This staggering amount also helped Microsoft see a doubling in its sales of the Xbox 360 console over the same period of time. Some reports have the number of console units sold at about 277,000. 11,000 have been sold in Japan, Sony and Nintendo’s backyard. The company has also seen a surge of new subscribers to its paid Xbox Live online service.

These figures have now helped to establish Microsoft as one of the dominate players in the $30 billion video game market. The company built by the retiring Bill Gates was looking to make inroads in a new direction after seeing its dominance in the computer software, internet browser and operating systems department begin to take major hits from the world courts and competing companies.

“Initial reports from retailers worldwide show console sales have more than doubled compared with the weekly average before the launch of ‘Halo 3,”‘ Microsoft said in a statement.

Ok whats with the odd posts?

Anyway, it’s a great game. Well done to Bungie and MS. Bungie are now free from MS as well, so expect some quality non Halo IP from those guys!

I heard there was some bad blood between MS and Bungie which lead to the split. Maybe Bungie will re-imagine its pre-Halo FPS series “Marathon” for every platform except the 360. 🙂
