Vampires are still all business in Hollywood. The success of such films as the “Underworld” movies and now the new “30 Days of Night,” which is a bone-chilling look at the blood suckers, is proof that those frisky-neck hugging undead critters are still big box office.
With that in mind director Catherine Hardwicke (“Lords of Dogtown,” “The Nativity Story”) is ready to take Stehphenie Meyer’s bestselling “Twilight” series and turn it into a major vampire movie.
Hardwicke, with Summit Entertainment, has hired Melissa Rosenberg (“Dexter”) to adapt the young adult fantasy series into a workable movie script.
Meyer has already written two sequels to the first novel (“New Moon” & “Eclipse”) and there is no word yet on how much of each will be incorporated into the film, or whether each will serve as a basis for sequels to this first movie. What we do know is Summit has plans on making the series into a film franchise.
“Twilight” is about a 17-year-old girl named Bella who moves to a small town to live with her father. She becomes enamored with a pale mysterious classmate who comes from a family of vampires.
