“Halo 3” Is Money In the Bank

September 27, 2007 By Sam Sloan 7 Comments

rhalo3.jpgThe Microscoft video game “Halo 3” made more money on its opening day than most major motion pictures can collect in months on screens across the globe.

This blockbuster sci-fi action sequel to the popular video game franchise chalked up an amazing $170 million in the United States alone this Tuesday when it went on sale for the first time. That should tally out to around 2.5 million units sold across the nation.

Microsoft, already a major leader in the computer software industry, now can boast of having the biggest video game and overall entertainment premiere in history. That should make Bill Gates a happy man as he begins to step down from the day-to-day operations of his mega-corporation.

“The initial demand we’ve seen for ‘Halo 3’ has been astounding, and the game is on track to become the number one gaming title of all time,” Jill Hamburger, VP of movies and games at Best Buy, said in a statement released by Microsoft.

I gotta admit…I’m one of the wacky folks who were in line at midnight to get a copy of the game. And quite honestly it’s a LOT of fun.

I like it. Great graphics and new cool stuff. But I miss how fast my guy could move in Gears. Bought it the morning of and only had to wait in line with five other guys…sweet.

I had mine on pre-order, so I refused to stand in line at midnight.

Don’t get me wrong: the dollar figure is quite impressive. But when you figure that a movie ticket is about $10 each, and you could pay either $60, $70, or $130 for Halo 3 (depending on which version you bought), it’s not much of a comparison in the actual numbers sold category.
