CBS has come out the winner of a bidding war it waged with ABC to become the home of Jerry Bruckheimer’s adaptation of the “Eleventh Hour” miniseries starring Star Trek and X-Men alum Patrick Stewart. Listen to Slice of SciFi show #90’s TV Talk from January 2007 for more information about “Eleventh Hour.”
The England-made miniseries was a huge success on British television and Bruckheimer is set to produce a full series for American television with a commitment from CBS to air the pilot episode, with a further look if the pilot garners expected results. CBS may have agreed to as many as 13-episodes, according to Variety. However, a spokesperson for the Eye network is denying the rumor.
The “Eleventh Hour,” which aired originally as a four-part miniseries centered on a character named Professor Alan Hood, portrayed by Stewart. Hood goes to work for a government agency to investigate mysterious cases that involve matters of real science, such as, cloning, global warming, nuclear proliferation and so forth. Bruckheimer’s take is said to be more in line with Chris Carter’s “The X-Files” series. No word yet if Stewart plans on jumping the pond to star in the U.S. made series or even if Bruckheimer has asked him to.

Another great British series about to be ruined by American ‘adaption’. If it’s going to be ‘more like the X-Files’ than The Eleventh Hour, then why bother naming it as such?
My gut feeling is to see the original by flying BT airlines and ignore the remake.
Why do a remake? I don’t get it. If they like 11th Hour, then why not get the crew back and turn that into a show.
As I live in england I remember the series when it was on about 2 years ago. I don’t know where the idea came from that it was a huge success. After watching the first episode I could not be bothered anymore and as far as I can remember thats what the majority of the viewing public did as well. It was supposed to be ITV’s (Independent Television, a commercial channel that is in direct competition to the BBC) answer to Dr Who but in a non fantasy factual sort of way. Perhaps giving it an x files twist will make it more interesting instead of the bore that it was. It was something even Patrick Stewart could not bring to life.
As said in the article above: “Bruckheimer’s take is said to be more in line with Chris Carter’s “The X-Files” series.”
It says the series will be MORE in line with “The X-Files” series. It didn’t say it was an X-Files clone.
The way I see it, it’ll be “The X-Files” minus all the fantasy, supernatural, and alien stories. That doesn’t leave a lot left over, especially since the alien conspiracy is the basis for the X-Files series.
But, really, for some reason, this series (both the original and the US version) sounds a lot like the series “Strange World”.
