As it enters it’s second season, NBC’s “Heroes” is generating a lot of buzz. It seems as if we’re getting casting news on the show on an almost daily basis and the show proved one of the most popular draws at the recent ComicCon.
And while a lot of fans are eagerly anticipating the second season, could the show be peaking too soon?
“The Boston Globe”‘s Matthew Gilbert poses that question and says he thinks the show could have overextended itself.
Sometimes, only a true-blue friend tells you when you have food on your teeth.
“And so the time has come to hold a mirror up to “Heroes,” to show NBC and series creator Tim Kring that their smile isn’t quite as pretty and inviting as they seem to think,” says Gilbert. “It’s too unflaggingly broad, and it’s marred by a big chunk of something — is that grandiosity? vanity? need? greed? — lodged smack between the two front incisors.”

It’s a legit question…after all, the ratings were already starting to slip at the end of the first season. I think we’ll see the kind of backlash that has hit “Lost” each and every new season, which is sometimes deserved, often not.

I know this isn’t a popular statement here, but I fear that Heroes will go the way of BSG (IMHO). BSG’s first 2 seasons were stellar, amazing, fantastic, and then in my opinion started to slide off the cliff and bounce down into the canyon.
I hope Heroes doesn’t do that, I thoroughly enjoyed S1 and am looking forward to S2.

Am I the only one that completely ignores the web presence of these popular shows? I loved the first season of Heroes, but to this day I have yet to visit the official NBC site. Same with the other shows I watch: Lost, BSG, etc. Even last year when BSG premiered those 2min webisodes (which were actually pretty good), I watched them primarily on YouTube. Only saw a couple of them at the actual SciFi channel website.
And I agree with this article, “Heroes†has been from day one overhyped to the extreme. “Save the cheerleader, save the world,†“Whose on the list?†and all that jazz. Luckily, the first season lived up to the hype and I enjoyed the show tremendously. But all the hype felt kinda cheezy after being bombarded by it. We’ll see how season 2 does soon enough.

I think the strength of Heroes is the expandability of everyone on it, and the fact that it’s got a format that can constantly renew itself without being tied down to any specific character or writer or director. But Kring seems to be bringing back pretty much everyone from the first season, which defeats the purpose of the great format. Hopefully he can pull it off, but maybe falling in his face is what Kring needs to realise how the show can be made better.

Geez, they turn negative on shows fast these days! It’s why I can’t stand the entertainment press today. Build something up, & then destroy it. You can’t even enjoy anything in peace these days. With Doctor Who, you have to constantly deal with the British tabloids making up lies about the show & the people who work on it. Please, entertainment press! Leave the viewers alone so we can enjoy our shows!
