“Next Generation” Could Be Next To Go HD

July 30, 2007 By Mike Hickerson 3 Comments

The success of re-mastering the original “Star Trek” has led the digital team behind the project to consider its next project–re-mastering “Star Trek: The Next Generation” for HD.

TrekMovie reports that at ComicCon the team at CBS Digital behind the re-mastering of classic “Trek” would like to tackle the 178 episode of “Next Generation” next. The group has created a test episode to gauge how much work would have to be done and if Paramount/CBS brass would get behind and approve the project.

One concern is the visual effects which were were done in video and therefore more difficult to translate to HD. The team are seeing if the effects can be ‘uprezed’ or if they need to be entirely redone (as they did with TOS). Ryan Adams says “that is part of the tests that we are trying to massage and figure out.”

No official work yet on if this will be a go or not. But just imagine how cool it would be to see “Best of Both Worlds, Part 1” in HD.

So my question about this Great news is:
in case this comes to be, will it be released in either Wide or letter box screen?
I know this depends mostly on how it was filmed to begin with, but still, there might be some info some where on the infinite web.

I wonder if the “remastered” Borg ships would look more like the Borg cubes from “Star Trek: First Contact”, looking more complex with that sort of eerie green light.

As much as I love the special fx in TNG, I beg them not to “uprez.” It is super noticable. And if all else was filmed then it would stand out like a ferengi on the bridge.
