X-Files Second Movie Script is Completed

July 16, 2007 By Sam Sloan 12 Comments

xfiles.jpgDuring a press junket this weekend to promote his new Showtime series titled “Californication,” actor David Duchovny, who played special agent Fox Mulder on the television series “The X-Files” for 9 years and in the 1998 feature film, told reporters that the script for the next X-Files big screen flick is now finished and he and fellow actor Gillian Anderson should be getting a copy of it soon.

Chris Carter, X-Files creator, and his longtime collaborator Frank Spotnitz (who has been a guest on our show) have been developing this new script idea for some time now. The chatter on the web over the last two years has increased with each new hint of a sequel to the poorly received first film. One thing we can reveal is that this new film will not be connected in any way with the 1998 movie, but will stand on its own merit.

“Chris has written it with Frank Spotnitz, and Chris will direct it,” Duchovny said. “And [Gillian] is on board, and I’m on board, and that’s all I can tell you. I mean, I’m looking forward to seeing what he did.”

“Before, I would just say that because they told me,” Duchovny said. “But now I’ve been talking to Chris and he’s been giving me progress reports. He actually called yesterday and said next week we should have something.”

We will keep you posted as to shooting dates, storylines, proposed release dates and other guest stars that sign up for the project.

Was the first one poorly received in the US?
It was certainly well received here in Australia.

They are blowing smoke. This movie will never be made. They’ve been torturing us with the promise of another X-Files movie for years. I *want* to see one though.

Yeah Matt, sad to say that the film was panned pretty badly here in the US. I loved it though and am really looking forward to the next one.

I wanted to like the first (possibly only) X-Files movie. It wasn’t terrible, but it could have been so much better.

The news that a 2nd xf movie will be made is the best news in years. the only problem with the 98 movie was that the new filming techniques were only in its infancy & yeah the story line could have been a tad better but to be fair its still a great movie.
the 2nd best news that could come out would be if peter jackson was to direct the hobbit.

I saw the first movie three times when it was out in theaters. I can only say that about two other movies: “Ghostbusters” and “Signs”.

The first movie was pretty damn good if you ask me. Although there were a few things that Chris Carter should’ve changed. This new movie, will be a totally stand alone film, and have nothing to do with the Alien Conspiracy. From what I heard about it, it will be very scary. I’m just wondering what the storyline will be, will it be about a story that we’ve already seen or an all new threat. Personally, If it’s a previous storyline, I hope it’s not the Bat Creature or the return of the Fluke Man. I was hoping this next film would have the return of CGB Spender, and also the return of the Alien Bounty Hunter. The return of CGB Spender could be done, who’s to say the man in the wheel chair in the caves in New Mexico in the very last show was actually Cancerman, it could’ve been a clone. And, if Chris Carter and Frank Spotnitz play this new movies’s ending right, they can lead into the X-Files third feature film and revive the Alien Conspiracy. Let’s just hope this will come to pass.
