On the heels of Microsoft’s announcement that, regardless of all the problems the company has had with repairs and breakdowns of its Xbox 360 consoles, it will not be lowering the price of the gaming console, Sony does a major cut in it’s charge for its new PS3 Player.
Sony is chopping $100 (US) off the price tag of its new, higher-end version of the PS3 Player, which boasts of a larger hard drive and the inclusion of a free game. This newer player will have an 80 GB HD at $599 which puts it in line to compete with the Xbox 360 Elite ($479) that has a 120 GB HD, but with the disadvantage of poor press due to Microsoft’s recent failure rate and the fact that the Xbox doesn’t offer high-def DVD play.

Get a wii- they cost a fraction of the price of these behemoths and most inportantly they are FUN!!!
only dropping it by $100.00???
Sony please, you’ll spoil us.
Yes the Wii is looking more and more like our next purchase.
tim and darcy
A price war they already lost. And the 360 does offer HD movies. You just buy the optional player. Add that to the price of the 360 (pre cut) and you are looking at a similar price to the PS3 anyway.
This is like saying Yugo slapped Mercades with a price war.
The PS3 is a big pile of crap, that’s why it’s not selling. It’s not that it’s just more expensive, it’s that no body wants all the junk on it.
MS did it right having HD-DVD player optional. You don’t need bluray for the games, and you’re paying for it.
Only reason to buy a PS3 is if you want a cheap blu-ray player now. They need some killer games – which the Xbox 360 has – to do well.
That being said, I own neither. I have a Wii and have lots of fun with non-HD non-Cinematic games.
The PS3 is just fine for what it’s built for…I use it regularly, especially in tandem with my PSP.
That said, the Wii is definitely worth the money, if you can find one. It’s great for the kids, where the PS3 is more for the big kids (aka, the adults!).
