Series Four Doctor Who **BREAKING NEWS**

July 2, 2007 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

If you’ve not seen the season finale of “Doctor Who” ‘Last of the Time Lords’ you might want to save this article for later. There are SPOILERS for the end of series three just ahead…

Written by: Michael Hickerson (SoSF Staff Journalist)

Last week, we reported that companion Martha Jones was leaving the TARDIS as a full-time companion. Saturday night, Martha did indeed decide to take a break from full-time travel in the TARDIS, but she promised the Doctor she’d be back soon. She even left the Doctor her cell phone he’d fixed to call across time and promised if she needed him, she’d call.

Today, the BBC officially announced the future of the character of Martha Jones as played by Freema Agyeman. Martha will guest-star on three episodes of the popular spin-off “Torchwood” next year before rejoining the TARDIS crew at the mid-point of series four. The BBC also revealed a new, full-time companion would join the Doctor on his travels through time and space next year. No official word or confirmation of who the new companion will be or who will play the role.

“I can’t wait to start filming on Torchwood and the new series of Doctor Who,” said Freema. “It’s a huge new challenge for me and I’m delighted Russell has decided to expand the character of Martha Jones.'”

Filming on series four begins later this summer in Cardiff.

Series three begins its U.S. run this weekend on SCI FI with a back-to-back episodes, including Martha’s debut story “Smith and Jones.”

OK, just out of interest, where does this link say David Tennant is leaving Dr Who? NOWHERE!

I live in the UK and am a Dr Who freak. Martha has left – yes. Donna from last year’s Xmas special is his new companion in series 4. But nowhere have I heard any solid facts about a new doctor in Series 4 – not even on the BBC website!

So stop panicking until Russell T Davies confirms it, guys….
