It’s Official — BSG Goes Bye Bye After Season 4

After months of debate over whether or not the upcoming season of “Battlestar Galactica” would be the last, we can confirm today that the fourth season will be the last for the hit SciFi show.

In a press-release, executive producers Ronald D. Moore and David Eick issued the following statement.

“This show was always meant to have a beginning, a middle and finally, an end. Over the course of the last year, the story and the characters have been moving strongly toward that end and we’ve decided to listen to those internal voices and conclude the show on our own terms,” Eick and Moore said in the statement. “And while we know our fans will be saddened to know the end is coming, they should brace themselves for a wild ride getting there –- we’re going out with a bang .”

The fourth and final season of “Battlestar” will run 22 episodes and begin airing early in 2008.

    Sad, but not surprising. 🙁

At least they’ll be able to give it a proper sendoff.

Is the Caprica series still happening? If so, when is it supposed to air? Or has it been canned too?

Currently Ron Moore and David Eick aren’t sure, but they’re not betting their paychecks on it. SCI FI hasn’t picked it up yet, no cast or crew have been selected and it isn’t slated for the 2007, 2008 or 2009 season. Moore can’t shop it to other networks until SCI FI either let’s it go completely or OK’s it for release to another network who may be interested…..so, don’t hold your breath — Ron isn’t.

Why? Is the main question swirling in my mind.

This is the series that raised the bar for television production. Will it also be the show which changes the way American televised story arcs are written. Will the beginning, middle and end of shows become preplanned? Will shows now choose to drop out of the running long before the ratings do?

Come on. Give us loyal fans Caprica (the rumored spin off) or something.
