Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame and Seattle International Film Festival Group Announce Third Annual Science Fiction Short Film Festival

Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame (SFM) in partnership with the Seattle International Film Festival Group (SIFF), announce the launch of the third annual Science Fiction Short Film Festival, to promote and encourage awareness, appreciation and understanding of the art of science fiction cinema.

SUBMISSIONS: From June 1 through September 15, 2007, the Science Fiction Short Film Festival will accept short film submissions, up to 15 minutes in length, that have been produced after 2003 for entry into the competition. Multiple submissions will be accepted according to the entry form rules and regulations. Submissions will be judged based on originality, quality, artistic merit, innovation, voice, style and narrative. Submitted films that range from “soft” or social science fiction to hard science fiction will be accepted. The Festival will not accept horror or fantasy submissions.

JURY: A nationally recognized panel of distinguished film, television, literature, and science fiction industry professionals, peers and film critics will review qualifying submissions. A jury, which includes science fiction notables and award-winning film professionals, will view the top selected films in competition during the festival to determine the winners.

The chosen entries will be screened in competition during the festival, which takes place in January or February (exact date TBA), 2008, at the Cinerama Theatre in Seattle, Washington. Prizes, to be announced, will be listed at Science Fiction and Fantasy Museum & Hall of Fam and at Seattle International Film Festival.

MISSION & OBJECTIVE: The Science Fiction Short Film Festival promotes and encourages an awareness, appreciation and understanding of the art of science fiction cinema. Its mandate is to create a forum for creative artistry in science fiction film and recognize the most outstanding short films produced.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL: The third annual Science Fiction Short Film festival, to be presented in Seattle, Washington in Winter 2008, brings together industry professionals in both filmmaking and the genre of science fiction to encourage and support new, creative additions to science fiction cinema arts. The film festival is co-sponsored by Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame and the Seattle International Film Festival.
