Wheaton To Write “Trek” Manga

April 1, 2007 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

Wil Wheaton, a good friend of Slice of SciFi, has announced that he will be writing a story for the second volume of “Star Trek: The Manga”.

Wil was asked by Luis Reyes, the editor in charge, if he would be willing to contribute to the series after he learned of Wil’s interest in writing. Wil said he would but admits that, “Initially, I was terrified at the prospect of creating and writing this story, but this voice in my head kept saying, ‘Dude, this would be so cool! Come on, man, let’s do this!’ Ultimately, I decided that if I’m going to truly call myself a Writer, and if I’m truly going to write that novel someday, I’ve got to tackle fiction sooner or later . . . and what better way to test myself than with characters and a universe that I already know?”

“Star Trek: The Manga” chronicles the ongoing journeys and adventures of Kirk, Spock, McCoy and the crew of the NCC-1701 USS Enterprise with all of its intrigue, social relevance, politics, love interests and interpersonal relationships. Of course, since the central figure is Captain James T. Kirk there is plenty of brawls and drop-kicks between Star Trek’s best known and most loved Captain and those pesky alien species out to destroy the Federation. These are the never before told origin stories of some of the Star Trek universe’s most popular friends and adversaries, “all coming at you in a fresh, new style,” reported Wheaton.
