Tennant Disappears Into the Timelord Void?

December 29, 2006 By Sam Sloan 8 Comments

The amount of energy it must take to maintain one human form for the Doctor must be enormous because it looks like David Tennant will be vacating the position during this current season’s mid-season shooting, according to UK paper and online news source The Sun.

After many denials over the last several months that he would be leaving the show, Tennant has now reportedly stated he will not be staying on for the entire fourth season’s shooting schedule.

After the return of the Doctor to the airways, Christopher Eccleston assumed the role to only leave it after one season (series in Britain) and was quickly followed by actor David Tennant who became the 10th and one of the most popular renditions of the Doctor since the old days of Tom Baker.

The paper claims that Tennant has been receiving scores of movie offers since appearing on Doctor Who, and specifically due to his silver screen appeal on the most recent Harry Potter flick. Tennant finally decided to avail himself of the big screen opportunities being afforded to him.

Big question now is “Who will replace Tennant?” Rumors already abound in the U.K. that the show’s producers are looking at Robert Carlyle (Trainspotting) and David Morrisey (Blackpool, Basic Instinct 2).

So there we have it, no Eccleston, no Piper and now, no Tennant. Doctor Who will survive this latest vacancy announcement…it has, afterall been around for going on 44 years now with 10 different Doctors and several companions…it is doing quite nicely thank you.

I also read a denial of this story from the BBC today also. I would HATE to have to go through another Doctor. First Christopher, Billie leaving, and now David…come on.

Already have it on the website Kreg, but thanks. This story is moving faster than I can keep up with it. 🙂

Since they have made the Doctor fall in love, and cry over the loss of Rose “oh my god kill her off already” Tyler, why not go all the way and let a woman play the Doctor after Tennant leaves.

@Kevinc, HERESY!!!! The Timelord regeneration process does not work that way. Mind you I have been thinking on how they would get around the 12 regenerations issue. If I remember correctly, not being able to regenerate past 12 was an imposed thing issued by the Timelord council. Without them The Doctor will just continue to regenerate.

I don’t actually think DT will leave just yet. The Sun is hardly a “repreable” paper.

Honestly, I won’t believe it ’til I hear it from the Beeb. The Sun’s a tabloid that, among other things, claims to be responsible for bringing the Daleks back to the original series.

He can still stay! They can write this as the first failed regeneration in the Docotr’s lfie. Because he is getting old, the regeneration process was triggered a bit too hastily, but with a doctor’s knowledge of his own biology he was strong wnough to beat it off and come out of the regeneration unregenerated! and still with the same body as he went into it with. Think about it, and lobby the scriptwriters hard to go for this one.
