I was just made privy to a few new sites for collectors of memorabilia and other unique genre items and want to share them with you.
The first is called Firebox and it specializes in gizmos/gadgets/cool gift items, as well as the finer things for the serious collector. I meandered over to the site, and was blown away at some the the cool Sci-Fi items they had available. The site has tons of exclusive stuff on their site. They’re based in the UK and will have their US side up and running by next week. While the really cool stuff is a bit on the expensive side, (that is never a problem for the serious connoisseur of collecting), there are still some reasonably priced things as well.
You can find Star Wars Limited Edition Canvas Art Prints that are enclosed in sturdy built wood frames and of high quality. These prints are a Firebox exclusive and cannot be found elsewhere. Pricing will start at around $99 US.
Another interesting article is the Star Wars Mr. Potato Head toys which are actually pretty cool. For the kiddies there is Duck Fadar – get it? Oh well, its a rubber ducky with a Darth Vader mask that can light up when placed in a tub of bath water.
For Doctor Who collectors there is the R/C Dalek which looks kind of cool.
One final item that many will find fascinating is the full replica suit of Stormtrooper Armor…which will completely blow your mind. Priced steep for the serious collector – $558 US for the Helmet, $1860 US for just the Suit of Armor or $2417 US for the complete set. Hey, for a chance to show that off in a glass case, it’s worth the price.
Another company that may work well for computer scifi geeks is one that specializes in uniquely designed USB thumb drives. Mimoco makes them and they are officially licensed by LucasFilm Ltd. The series will start shipping in January 2007 and they’re taking pre-orders on the first character which is none other than Darth Vader! The series will only run about 2500 – 3500 in number to make it a limited edition product and they’re going to come in 1,2 and 4 GB capacities. Pricing? They’ll run you from $ 79.95 US to $ 169.95 US – they’re available at StarWarsShop.com and Mimoco.
