Star Trek: Avalon

August 26, 2006 By S. K. Sloan Leave a Comment

What is “Star Trek: Avalon”?

Avalon is a bold take on the Star Trek universe, taking the familier Trek archetypes and setting them in a dark world that is a script-based fan fiction project, more accurately, a virtual series, that aims to look at Star Trek from a different angle. The show is run by Joshua Legg and Joseph Burdette and is a collaborative effort among several writers.

In a unique dramatic style, the creators of Avalon have broken the mold of what’s been done before and have created a universe in the vein of classic Trek. To call Avalon “just a fan fiction” would be selling it short, as it is much more. It’s truely a virtual series with it’s own creative take on the familiar, in a universe unlike anything yet seen in Rodenberry’s vision.

Despite the darkness of this universe, Avalon is a character driven show at it’s core. The galaxy is now a strange new place again but the real exploration comes from digging into personalities of the main cast. There will always be new and interesting stories to tell about people and their struggles to lead a better, more peaceful life and that’s what Avalon is about.

The first season ran for 10 episodes and premiered with a four episode mini-series to introduce this new world to the reader.
