Stargate SG1 Rumored To Be Cancelled

August 22, 2006 By Sam Sloan 5 Comments

sg1 cast.jpgI didn’t immediately go to press with this yesterday morning when I got the news because I wanted to get verification from more than one source but, yes, the latest from those “unqualified sources” grapevine, Gateworld and our own Hollywood insider is that the landmark series Stargate SG1 has been placed on the chopping block by MGM and the SCI FI Channel.

According to all the sources, the decision was jointly made and the news given to the cast and crew after they celebrated their 200th episode party. We still await official word from “qualified sources” at NBC Universal or the SCI FI Channel. The reason for the decision to cancel? The same old ones, lowering ratings and higher production costs.

If this pans out to be more than speculative rumor, the same sources are telling us that both MGM and the SCI FI Channel, while closing down SG1, are not finished with the franchise. A new Stargate SG1 movie with the original TV cast, or a new spinoff series is under serious condsideration.

Also, Stargate: Atlantis has been renewed for a fourth season.

Even though our sources are pretty firm, fans should still hold out until official word is received from the SCI FI Channel or its parent company, NBC Universal. Stay tuned for more.

If this has anything to do with that bull{bleep} that was mentioned in an earlier podcast about watching the show live or they would do something drastic, then I am going to have some serious thinking to do about the SciFi channel and television for that matter.

I don’t see SG1 getting tired at all when it comes to the stories they tell. It also seems totally ridiculous to me that they are “considering” another spinoff series yet are unwilling to continue the existing SG1. That doesn’t make any sense to me.

Mind you, this is all still speculation and rumor, but if it turns out to be fact…

Star Trek followed exactly the same idea with DS9 running alongside TNG until letter one ran its course. Then DS9 + Voyager until DS9 was done… I started to follow SG1 only after Atlantis was launched and I like them both, but I have to admit I still prefer Atlantis. So if it turns out to be true, it’s sad, but not devestating, since Atlantis got another season.

I hope that the people in charge of MGM and the Sci-Fi channel change there mind about cancelling Stargate SG1 and run another season. It is just that SG1 is still very popular, after all I like the show to. I do like the spin-off Atlantis, But I love SG1 evan more. So please MGM an SCI-FI channel do not cancel STARGATE SG1 it is still a very good TV Show.

I still can’t believe that the people in charge are stupid enough to cancel their most popular show. There must be something that can be done!

I still check every week at least once to see if Stargate Sg-1 series is resuming. I was a little slow watching the series get underway but in the end it is/was!!! pretty much the only show I look/looked forward to. Even on repeat showings I still watch most of them again and again .
    P.S. STILL HOPING
