“Batman: The Dark Knight” Casting Rumors

August 16, 2006 By Sam Sloan 7 Comments

Submitted by: Tad Runkle (Animation Station)

phillippe.bmpRyan Phillippe is rumored to possibly be the man to take over the role of Harvey Dent/Two Face from Tommy Lee Jones after reportedly landing the role for the “Batman Returns” sequel. Phillippe would join Heath Ledger, who has definitely signed on to play The Joker while Christian Bale is reprising his role as the caped crusader in “Batman: The Dark Knight.”

If the rumor holds true then Phillippe, one of the many ensemble cast members of the Academy Award winning flick “Crash” will have beaten out Liev Shreiber and Josh Lucas for the role of the scheming district attorney, played by Jones in the 1995 movie “Batman Forever.”

Academy Award winners Sir Michael Caine and Morgan Freeman have rejoined the cast, while fellow Oscar winner Philip Seymour Hoffman is also rumored to be in talks to play The Penguin in the new film.

I really hope they dont ruin this by throwing 3 villains (did I read that right?) into one film…that’s what ruined the last Batman movies (aside from nipples on the bat armor).

The Joker really should be the only villain in whatever installment he is in, IMHO.

Though Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin would be interesting. That guy can ACT.

My sentiments exactly- the films only need one vilain- and a decent joker would be outstanding. I would love to see them draw the plot from ‘the killing joke’. Now that was a batman story!
Or you have him play Dent in this film- and two face only come out in the next film!

Well, Batman Begins had two villians, maybe three if you count that crime boss. If the bad guys aren’t totally focused on, then maybe it would be okay. In other words, they would have a main enemy, but one or two in the background that are sort of up-and-coming.

As it was told to me, THIS Batman movie series is supposed to be a true “series”, where each movie is part of a larger storyline. So, while a minor enemy may be in the upcoming movie, he or she may be a major enemy in a movie beyond this next one.

When I saw that picture of Ryan Phillipe, I thought–oh they’ve cast James Marster in the movie.

And then I thought about it..and I realized Marsters would be great as Two-Face….

they already made one bad casting move with the joker, letting very many good actors get away to hire an un-proven actor who’s only clame to fame was macking with gylenhall. i hope they don’t let liev shrieber and denzel get away(both could be awesome as harvey dent) Phillipe is a really good actor but he just can’t bring nearly as much of an impact to this role as someone like denzel or shrieber would.

i think the whole renewer of the joker idea is awesome but the penguin thing sets me off edge….two-face could be put in a different movie also…but i still like the idea…..ive also heard rumors of some one playing the riddler? either someone needs to stop making rumors or batmans gonna get his butt kicked..
