“X-Files 2”: One Step Closer

May 21, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 5 Comments

andersonducovny.jpgWe had Frank Spotnitz as our guest on last week’s Slice of SciFi episode, and he says that he is currently developing the script for the long overdue followup to the first big screen X-Files film.

As we have reported in the past all primary people are in place and ready to go, including Chris Carter, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

The only thing still tying up the project for forward progress is the decade old legal battle Carter has had with 20th Century Fox.

The X-Files ran for nine years on FOX and had the honor, until most recently, of holding the record for the longest running scifi program in US history. That record will be surpassed by The Sci-Fi Channel’s “Stargate: SG1” this July as the series enters its tenth season of programming with no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Spotnitz says that all they are waiting for is the thumps up from Carter and “X-Files: 2” will be off and running into production.

Is it just me or did the last episode of The X-Files (The Truth)had an awful ending …It offered very little in the way of closure and all looked particularly bleak for Mulder and Scully (and indeed Mankind) and what about William!? Dont they at least get thier baby back before the end of the world? maybe season 10? Optemistic but you never know…..
