Lisa A. Barnett Remembered

May 3, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 5 Comments

Fantasy writer Lisa A. Barnett, born 1958, died early yesterday morning at her home in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, from a brain tumor.

She and her partner Melissa Scott published three fantasy novels together, The Armor of Light (1988), Point of Hopes (1995), and Point of Dreams (2001), the last of which won a Lambda Literary Award in 2002.

She and Scott have also written novels together based upon Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager.

Just a minor correction: The Star Trek novels PROUD HELIOS (DS9) and THE GARDEN (Voyager) were written by Melissa Scott alone, not in collaboration with Lisa.

No disrespect, but Don there was no reason to correct the literary mistake in a rememberance to a wonderful woman. I’m sure Melissa would not have cared; many of us know who wrote what. Again, no disrespect. Rest in peace Lisa.

I think, if you would check with Melissa, she would probably indicate that even though Lisa is not officially credited with work on the Star Trek novels, her input on them was vitally important to Melissa and her finished published product.

No disrespect to anyone, but I was privileged to know Lisa for 26 wonderful years. She was a stickler for accuracy, and she always corrected that particular mistake whenever it popped up. Maybe it’s my grief talking, but I know she would want to make sure the record was correct.

(And of course Lisa’s input was vital to ALL of Melissa’s books, not just the Star Trek ones.)

    Point well taken Don.
