On March 28th we reported that Elton John and Disney parted ways over his animated musical fantasy project called “Gnomeo and Juliet.” Now we are happy to report that the story about the fantastical life of garden gnomes has been rescucitated by Miramax Films.

The film company bought the rights from Disney Pictures and will be working with Elton and lyricist Tim Rice, which pleases Elton to no end. “I am very excited about working with Miramax,” John said at the news conference which announced the deal. “Gnomeo is an edgy concept, and Miramax is the perfect home to push the envelope in animation.”

Actress Kate Winslet (Eternal Sunshind of the Spotless Mind) has signed on to voice the female lead which is scheduled to begin production in London, England very soon.
