Bond Has His Girl

February 17, 2006 By S. K. Sloan 4 Comments

Barbara Broccoli has made her choice for the new Bond Girl in “Casino Royale,” starring Daniel Craig as agent 007.

Relative newcomer Eva Green is a French actress who made her film debut a little over two years ago in the sleeper hit “Dreamers” and was in last year’s Ridley Scott box-office fizzle “Kingdom of Heaven.”

Other actors to come on board in key roles are Jeffrey Wright (Angels in America & Syriana) as Bond’s U.S. CIA counterpart Felix Leiter and, in a surprise move, Mads Mikkelsen (King Arthur) as Bond’s arch-nemesis Le Chiffre.

Green beat out some tough competition. Rumor had been floating around Hollywood for months that Thandie Newton and Oscar winner Charlize Theron, among others, were contending for the part.

Pre-production and location background shooting has begun. Theatrical release is currently scheduled for November 2006.

It says that Le Chiffre will be played by Mads Mikkelsen, not Eva Green.
