Bethesda Softworks has been given exclusive rights as the maker of all STAR TREK video games. These rights include every type of game format.
Viacom, the parent company of CBS/Paramount gave the acquisition to Bethesda after a tortuous legal battle with one-time license holder Activision. The two media giants have apparently worked out their differences which ended up giving Bethesda the lion’s share for gaming related to all future television and movie STAR TREK creations. However, the licensing agreement Viacom currently has with Perpetual Entertainment’s development of online STAR TREK RPG’s is unaffected by this new development with Bethesda Softworks.
The soon to be released games by Bethesda will include a PC and Xbox 360 game called “STAR TREK: Legacy,” and the PSP, Nntendo DS platform protable game “STAR TREK: Tactical Command.” Look for these on shelves in early Fall 2006.
