The screenings that we held the contest for were last night, in both Phoenix and Tucson, and while I don’t have a report from Joe about the Tucson screening yet, the Phoenix screening was far more interesting than it should have been.
Universal handed out far more passes than there were seats available, and after the response to the earlier screenings, you’d think someone would have known that they wouldn’t have had the “usual” number of no-shows for this film that they might have had for others.
The theater only had 500 seats, and at last count that I heard, between 750-800 people were in line to get in. A lot of people didn’t get in, including some of our contest winners, which annoyed me greatly, especially after seeing that about 20 seats reserved for press were empty when the film started and they never let anymore people in to fill them.
I believe that everyone who didn’t get in is supposed to get passes to a future screening, but I’ve heard from other people whom this has happened to that they’ve never received “make up” passes, so I guess we’ll see. In any case, if you won a pass from Slice of SciFi but didn’t get in, let us know… maybe we can arrange for you to come be on a future episode of “Wingin’ It”.
Now, there were some people who didn’t live in the screening areas who were curious about the contest answers, so here ya go:
1) Which main character died during the series?
A: Captain Malcolm Reynolds, in “War Stories” (but just for a little while)
2) What is the technical classification of Serenity
A: Mid-bulk transport with standard radion accelerator core, 03-K64 Firefly (answer variations were acceptable)
3) What did Joss Whedon consider to be Summer Glau’s screen test for the role of River?
A: her role as the ballerina in the Angel episode “Waiting in the Wings”
4) What ship can be seen flying past the window of Durran Haymer’s Bellerophon estate?
A: Jubal Early’s transport
5) Name the actress who had been cast as Inara before Morena Baccarin?
A: Rebecca Gayheart

It sucks that some people didn’t get in but it is great to hear that there was such a large turnout!
