The latest scary monster for Doctor Who to face has been created by a schoolboy of nine. William Grantham’s creation came top in a Blue Peter competition.

Now his “Abzorbaloff” monster – which absorbs its victims – will appear in the next series of the sci-fi show, alongside new Time Lord David Tennant.

William, from Colchester, Essex, beat 43,920 other entries – the most in a Blue Peter competition since 1993.

Tennant and Doctor Who executive producer Russell T Davies – who entered a Design a Monster competition in the 1960s – were judges.

Blue Peter editor Richard Marson said: “Every day brought more sacks… we had to draft in extra help to get through the mountain of designs.”
