According to producer Charles Roven the next Batman movie is in the works except for one possible hitch, albeit a small one. “We’re waiting for Chris Nolan [director] to declare himself,” Roven said in a recent interview. “We will do it after he does that.”
Confirmed for the sequel, to date, is Christian Bale as the Dark Capped-Crusader, and Katie Holmes as Rachael Dawes. However, according to an unnamed source from PageSix.com, “she [Katie Holmes] won’t be in the sequel…the next romantic interest will be a much stronger actress…”
Also onboard for the sequel is Morgan Freeman reprising his role. Michael Caine and Gary Oldman have signed on to play Alfred and Jim Gordon respectively.
Roven indicated that new characters are being developed and new cast members are being sought out to fill those roles. However, no final word on who those cast members will be.
