Pitt Falls Into “Dark Void”

November 20, 2009   || Category: Film News | 1 Comment

Actor Brad Pitt has signed on for the big-screen adaptation of the popular video-game “The Dark Void” Variety reports.

“Dark Void” follows a pilot who crash lands in the Bermuda Triangle following a routine mission and finds himself in an alternate world resembling a primitive Earth where aliens with superior technology are planning to take over civilization.

If you loved this summer’s reboot of “Star Trek” and were, like many of us, left panting for more, it looks like you’ll have to be satisfied with watching it again and again on DVD or Blu Ray.

During the promotional tour for the recently released to home theater movie, director J.J. Abrams said that it’s looking more and more like the next installment won’t hit screens until 2012.

If you liked the ending of Stephenie Meyer’s “New Moon,” you can thank the author’s movie.

Meyer tells Oprah Winfrey that she orginally planned the ending of the second installment in the series to be a bit more cerebral and to take place inside Bella’s head.

Actress Rachel McAdams says that if she’s been cast as Felicia Hardy, aka The Black Cat, for the upcoming “Spider-Man 4,” it’s news to her.
McAdams denied rumors that she’s been cast for the upcoming movie.
“That’s a total rumor, I have to say,” she tells Entertainment Weekly “I was hanging out in Toronto the other day [...]

“Saw 7″ Will Happen

November 13, 2009   || Category: Film News | 7 Comments

Despite the fact that it didn’t top the box office with its sixth installment, the latest version of “Saw” turned a profit for Lionsgate Studios. And we all know what that means–we’ll get more “Saw” next Halloween.

The Hollywood Reporter indicates that Lionsgate wants a new installment to hit theaters for late October next year.

And the contenders for the Best Animated Picture Oscar are:

Director Roland Emmerich has carved out quite a niche for himself in Hollywood when it comes to directing disaster films. He’s given us “Independence Day,” “The Day After Tomorrow” and this week’s big opening of “2012.”

But now that he’s done destroying the world in “2012,” Emmerich thinks its time to hang up his armageddon directing ways.

In his weekly column for AMC’s SciFi Scanner blog, best-selling and Hugo-nominated author John Scalzi discusses why the half-billion dollar “Avatar” can’t fail.

Yesterday we brought you news that Sony’s hit animated movie, “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” would hit home theater via streaming video download in early December.

As news broke, exhibitors expressed their displeasure, citing the home-theater release of the film would be less than three months after “Cloudy” debuted on the big-screen. Exhibitors were upset at Paramount earlier this year for the studio’s decision to rush “G.I. Joe” to DVD and Blu-Ray in a shorter than usual time.

Curious to see what the reimagined “Clash of the Titans” will look like when it hits theater?
You can check out the teaser trailer at Yahoo! movies.

In a move that could signal the future of the home theater industry, Sony Pictures will offer consumers the animated hit “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” first on streaming Blu-Ray players and Internet TV, reports the New York Times.
Priced at $24.99, the move is hoped to spark a renewed interest and model for home [...]
