The original Thor not only introduced us to Thor but also Hawkeye. Could the second installment also serve as an introduction for another Marvel character?
It’s possible.
ScreenRant has posted a story that Doctor Strange could make his silver screen debut in the next Thor movie.
According to the rumor, the movie sees Jane Foster working alongside Doctor Stephen Strange similarly to how she worked with Doctor Eric Selvig in the original movie. Strange wouldn’t be relegated to cameo status, either; the rumor states that “he would be playing a big part in ‘all three acts’ of the film.” Furthermore, Strange would be a scientist with interest in Foster’s field of study and the tales of Asgard, a deviation from his status as a surgeon in the comic books.

This makes me happy if true. I’d need to know who is playing Strange before I declare myself very happy.

I read a rumor on one of the comic book sites (IGN? CBR?) that speculated Viggo Mortensen might play Doctor Strange.
Now, while I love Viggo, I don’t think he’s right for Doc Strange. What’s really funny is that before Dresden Files hit TV, I thought Paul Blackthorne would have made for a good fit. These days, I’d have to think about it… maybe Mark Strong (Septimus in Stardust), or Richard Armitage (Guy of Gisbourne in the most recent BBC version of Robin Hood), or maybe even Jason Isaacs.
Now, the funny thing here is, I seem to have picked guys from the British Isles, and didn’t realize it until after I posted the comment. As an avid reader of Doctor Strange back in the 80s and 90s, I have no idea why my brain ran in that direction. But, if my brain’s sticking British, and we can update Nick Fury, I throw my 2 cents in now for either Idris Elba or Chiwetel Ejiofor as updated Doc Strange candidates!

I have mixed feelings regarding this.
Dr. Strange is my favorite hero in the Marvel Pantheon, but I don’t want him introduced as part of some form of a stunt to help kick up the story. If he can be written properly then I’ll be happy. I just want him to be introduced into this universe of films correctly. He has a rich back story and it shouldn’t be overlooked.
