Head Denounces Whedon-Less “Buffy”

Head Denounces Whedon-Less “Buffy”

January 6, 2011 By Mike Hickerson 4 Comments

ashAdd Anthony Stewart Head to the long list of those who think a Joss Whedon-less “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” reboot is a bad idea.

“It’s a horrible idea in as much as Buffy was a great conceit. It was a great story,” he tells the Huffington Post. “I don’t feel that you can then remake that without the original creator on board. It doesn’t make sense. And I mean, somewhere down the line, I suppose sometimes … I suppose you could, but it never sits very comfortably. With someone like Joss, why would you want to? Well, I know why you want to. You want to make money. As he said recently, ‘I hope it’s good!’ [laughs] I love him.”

Head is part of the upcoming third season of “Merlin” which makes its debut in the U.S. tomorrow night on SyFy.

Head says that he sees similarities between both shows.

“[T]he thing that I always loved about Joss’ (Whedon) scripts is that everything had a repercussion. Everything had a consequence. And so it is in Merlin,” he says. “You know if someone does something bad, and there is stuff that Uther has done in his past that is bad, you know it’s going to come out somewhere. And it really really does.”

Have to admit Wheden’s scripts are wonderful (wish Firefly was still on)and I’m not sure someone else could do Buffy justice but I wouldn’t write it off until I saw the finished product. You never know what someone else can do until you give them a shot. As for Merlin…can’t wait…oops I didn’t…Already peeked at a couple of eppys but I’m willing to watch them again as well as those I haven’t seen.

Uh, he didn’t create Buffy. It was a movie first a couple years before the TV series.

Uh, he didn’t create Buffy. It was a movie first a couple years before the TV series.

And if you bothered to look it up, you will find that Wheedon wrote the opriginal script for that movie, and that the movie-company/director didn’t understand the script and turned the movie into a bad comedy.

So yes, Buffy was created by Joss Wheedon. Credit where credits due.

But that still raises the question if a new movie will work.
And looking to the past history of the movie that didn’t have Joss behind it (the original), this new movie is in for a very big hurdle.

I think it’s too soon to remake Buffy. I have no desire to see this.
