Gateworld Lists Six Things They Know About “SGU” Season Two

September 21, 2010 By Mike Hickerson 9 Comments

Only one more week until “Stargate Universe” returns.

If you’re anxious to see where things go next for the sophomore series (I’ve seen the first two episodes and they’re fantastic), you might want to take a look at this article over at Gateworld.

It lists six things they know are part of the second season of “SGU.”

It does contain SPOILERS for the first couple of episodes of the season. You have been warned.

Here’s a sample:

1. The Lucian Alliance Is Here To Stay

In last spring’s season finale this gang of leather-clad criminals from the Milky Way galaxy managed to gate onto Destiny and hold the crew hostage.  Led by the merciless Kiva, the Lucian Alliance hopes to take control of the ship and unlock its secrets for themselves.  In addition to Varro (actor Mike Dopud, who appeared in the last three episodes of Season One) as a recurring character, look for two more recurring faces among the Alliance: Simeon (Robert Knepper), a conniving soldier in whom Rush may have met his match, and Ginn (Julie McNiven), a young, female scientist.

The big question is just how (or whether) our crew can coexist with an enemy who stormed the ship and killed people they knew and loved.  Who will control the ship?  Will the group that’s not in power have a share of food, water, and medical attention?  Will they cooperate on missions?  Will they take orders from whichever group is in control?

“SGU” returns next Tuesday at 9 p.m. EST on SyFy.

Did they replace the entire writing staff with competent writers? If not, gotta say no thanks.

SGU writers are the same writers as SG-1 and SGA. I’m guessing you don’t like any of those shows. Gateworld is a great sight for fans of SGU btw. The owners of the site are long time fans of stargate so it’s a great resource if you’re not up on all your SG mythology.

I am up on my SG mythology. I’ve been a fan of StarGate since the 1994 movie. I have the entirety of SG1 and SGA on dvd. I am NOT a fan of StarGate Universe. The writers made a parody of the genre in 200, mocking shows that are centered on young idiots and their overly dramatic lives. Then they took that parody and turned it into its own show. SGU is a parody/mockery of all of StarGate before it. I gave it a chance. I saw the first 10 episodes. There was no progress in the writing. The acting was only so-so. Until they replace the entire writing and production staff, I don’t see that the show will really change. No need to spend my time or money on crap.

So if you don’t like it.. why bother even commenting?? You just spent you time on commenting about something you don’t like………

Well, people are more motivated to action (or voicing opinions) when they are displeased. Also, this is a forum, or so I thought, where fans can potentially give feedback (good and bad) to the people who produce the shows we watch.

Additionally, it can serve as a filter for those who do not have the time to check out all the shows on their own. True, sometimes the comments are not helpful, but taken as a whole can be regarded as a general indication of a show’s quality (I started watching Dr. Who based on all the comments here . . . how else would I have found out it’s not my cup of scifi tea?)

Finally, not to cast aspersions toward anyone, but the hosts of the show themselves are known to spend considerable amount of time voicing opinions about stuff they do not like. This is not a bad thing, and it seems counter intuitive to chastise contributors for doing the same thing.

But please, don’t take this as criticism . . . I was already called a jackwagon (or something to that effect) once, and I’m not anxious to incite further denigrating comments; just voicing (writing) an observation.

I dunno, Brian. Why do you bother reading URLs when you don’t know how?

I will add my 2 cents in as well- It seems for whatever reason SGU has put a spike in the middle of the fans. We either seem to love it or hate with the haters being more vocal. In that point I have to agree with Brian, I am tired of the SGU bashing.

I also say that yes people have a right to their opinion and their voice and I have the right not ot listen/read their comments. So when I see the comments repeating the same comments that others have said I skip them. I hope for some original criticism but it is lacking.

Now, I like SGU a lot and I like it better each episode-So Far. Personally I do not like SGA as it is a weaker version of SG1. Substitue Alantis for SG Command and just change the villians and the stories are the same just worse. I loved the Goa’uld. The wraith just got boring and I stopped watching and then saw the finally and I will not even get started.

Just to clarify. I made two separate comments. 1) the writers are the same then 2) gateworld is a great site for fans of any stargate (may have looked like I was saying Mich wasn’t up on Stargate mythology but it was a separate comment).

I think there are a lot more fans are in the middle. Like politics sometimes all we hear about are the people on the extremes. I do know I’m on one of the extremes for loving the show since episode 4 but I have reasons firmly grounded in what I was looking for in science fiction and those reasons have nothing to do with character drama which I don’t think is over done but perhaps the fact that it is included at all upsets some people.

As for spoilers in the news story I’m plugging my ears and singing LALALALALA. But it’s too late for some of them as I couldn’t avoid all the syfy promos. Sigh.
