On this week’s Slice of SciFi, we brought you news about Joss Whedon’s open letter to Halycon, offering $10,000 for the rights to the “Terminator” franchise.
Many may have thought Whedon was joking about it and while the creator of “Buffy,” “Angel” and “Firefly” said that he meant the open letter to be amusing and humorous that he was also serious about the offer.
“I was just joking with my friends! I was depressed one morning and I thought ‘Ah, I’ll cheer myself up,” because I had seen that and thought, “Gosh, I wish I had the wherewithal to buy the Terminator franchise. That would be amazing.’ So as a lark, I decided to make a pitch during my morning tea and then people were like—“Oh my God! Are you insane!” No, are you?,” Whedon tells TV Guide.
He said that he’d be willing to up his offer to $15,000 and that he didn’t have to have an exclusive on the franchise.
“I haven’t heard back but I’ve made it clear that this is a non-exclusive offer that other people can have the rights, too. I just have them also. That’s a good bargaining chip. You crunch those numbers and that’s $10,000! That’s a lot of money,” he said.
“I will say for the record, no one loves the Terminator franchise more than I do,” Whedon continued. “I’m not joking about that part. I loved the series. Josh Freidman did an amazing job and he’s hard-core. I loved the Terminator movies. I always wanted to make Terminator movies since I saw one, even before I saw one, I wanted to make a Terminator movie.”
Until he hears back, Whedon will be busy working on the second season of “Dollhouse” and gearing up for more “Doctor Horrible.”
“We have an outline, a wonderful concept, two songs, and general song placement. It really just needs the time. I’m going to win/win. Either I get the time or I don’t because of ‘Dollhouse’. Either way it’s a success,” Whedon said.
He added that he expects the entire cast back for the next installment and that he’s looking forward to working with everyone again.
“I don’t just work with them because they’re crazy talents, I work with them because they’re the best people I know. They walk over coals. They do it all the time, so yeah, they’ll be back,” he said.
Also on Whedon’s plate is directing an installment of his new favorite show, “Glee.” Whedon expects to take the director’s chair early next year.

I kind of wish they would give Whedon a shot at a Terminator movie cause that last Terminator Salvation one really seemed to bomb at the box office. I love the original movies and I watched the tv series [although it was a little too brooding for my liking] and I realy hope some fresh outlook can keep it going.
Topless Robot is reporting that Dollhouse has been canceled. Fox will air the full 13 episode run, but that’s it.
