Shat Accepts He Isn’t In Next Trek

Shat Accepts He Isn’t In Next Trek

June 30, 2008 By Sam Sloan 1 Comment

After months of trying to deal with the fact that he won’t be in the next Star Trek film that is looking to put spark back into the 40-plus year old franchise, William Shatner told CTV.ca News’ Josh Visser that “”I was amazed at what a wonderful director J.J. Abrams is and he’s going to make a wonderful movie.” I was just disappointed I’m not in the movie he is going to make because it is going to great.”

There will be one original cast member in the film. Leonard Nimoy will reprise his role of Spock. Now an old Vulcan, Spock is pivotal to the film’s plot as it will deal with younger versions of the now famous original crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise soon after they have left Starfleet Academy.

Abrams, who is both producer and director, along with script writers Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman wanted desperately to find a feasible way to include the older Kirk in the storyline, but found it impossible since the last time we saw Kirk on the silver screen he was buried under a pile of rocks in a makeshift grave after being killed by Soran in “Star Trek: Generations.” There was simply no way for them to bring back Kirk in a believable way that could fit in the kind of story they wanted to tell.

The article looks at much more than Bill’s acceptance of not being in the next Trek film, but takes a bird’s eye view of this man’s phenomenal success and long lasting career in show business spanning nearly 50 years as an actor, director, producer, singer/songwriter and novelist.

How does Bill sum up that success? “If there’s something I really wanted to do,” stated Shatner, “I just get up and do it. There’s nothing preventing me.”
